Stonger as One

As you probably have heard two heads are better than one, and stronger together than one. This is exactly the reason Lincoln's primary focus was on the union rather than slavery. Seperated the United States was vulnerable to attack and are economically weaker. Also if he kept the focus on slavery he would've further split the country because no matter which one he chose he would have stepped on people's toes and caused controversy. By focusing on keeping the country together he was able to be on the union's side with reasons that wouldn't make the confederates upset. I think this was the best way possible to handle the sunject. It is hard enough being president but trying to keep a seperating country together and succeeding as he did is unfathomable to most. But having one side win in the end does come with it's set of consequences, even if it is something as awful as losing your life.
